Last Minute Crochet Tips

The rush is onschool-1822566_640but, you have to remain calm.dog-1755423_640

I’ve read in many of my Facebook groups about  Creatives ending up in the hospital; by overexerting themselves with crochet projects. Others had self-inflicted injuries as they tried to beat the clock to pump out last-minute gifts.  Sad to say they  were out of commission for a while.

I  agree Christmas is the biggest gift giving season of the year; however, I’d like you to reach the finish line safely. runner-579327_640

I created a strategy exclusively for my Makers: “7 ways to “Keep Calm During Holiday Crochet” :

1. Plan Your Projects to avoid getting overwhelmed. Make a list of your projects and check them off as you complete each one. This method motivates you to  finish your projects faster. Here a simple chart you can download and print. project-list

2 .Take Breaks to stretch your muscles and body parts. We tend to crochet for hours without realizing  the time has flown past. Then our body gets sore and stiff, this can cause other health issues.  Set an hourly  timer on your cell phone or alarm clock. Dance for 10 minutes, walk around, breathe, and/or drink water or soothing tea.

3. Small Projects are great ways to check off that long project list quickly. Small can have a huge impact when packaged or presented nicely. Such as, a crochet mug cozy with tea bags and cookies inserted in a mug. Get creative and have lots of fun with your small projects.

4. Use Creative Packaging as I stated in tip #3! Gifts inside of a gift are great. Try the dollar store. They  have loads of baskets, vases, wrappings, bags, and bows to make your handmade creations WOW  your gifts. Don’t forget your labels! Buy them HERE.

5. Pamper Your Hands by soaking them in warm water. Gently stretch and massage them with hand  balm or shea butter. They are the chickas making  all the designs inside of you happen. To my Creatives that have arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and other issues; please pamper your hands.

6. Easy Projects don’t require too many  stitch transitions and difficult patterns. It makes Christmas Crochet much more productive and stress-less. Add cute embellishments like poms-poms and buttons. Stitches like the moss or basket weave create lovely textures. Play with bright fun colors and try the hounds-tooth stitch.  Trust me your easy projects will look like hard work.

7. A Comfy Corner is imperative! Camaraderie  a corner of your sofa, or a cozy recliner, or a bed rest pillow. Make sure you have a little table to place drinks, snacks, and crochet stuff. Don’t forget proper lighting. A comfy seat helps your entire body relax, including your prosperous hands.

I hope these tips are helpful, and  your Christmas Crochet is Calm and a Success!  Take a Look at this Inspirational Pinterest Board I made just for you.

                                                            Finish  healthy and strong.

Hello There!people-1636304_640

CC Podcast has not added any new shows since May. But, it will resume around Thanksgiving.

In the meantime. I am proud to announce  I learned the crocodile stitch. I have a couple of fall WIP’s for you to try; and some news about CC Podcast.

Although, I am somewhat of a private person;  I feel my awesome audience can get a snippet of my life. To my Blog skimmers;  good news, I am not a big writer lately. So my blog posts will be short and to the point.

I’ve been making moves! packing-40916_640

I moved back to NY from Maryland. But, setting up my studio is a daunting task. Unpacking, sorting, lifting, hurting and reconnecting with my family, is exhausting

Currently, I’m taking another hiatus in NJ with my parents. By the way they just celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary! Super proud of those two!

So, there you have the jist of it!

Now, moving forwardshield-468080_640

A terrible echo in my home will make CC Podcast a hazard to my listeners. It is really bad!face-985965_640

Yesterday, my 4 year old granddaughter  and I were on the phone and she  said “Grandma, have an echo party!”  See what I mean?

I really do miss CC’s podcast, so I’ve been crocheting and researching (just for you) in the meantime.  The set target date is Thanksgiving for resuming  CC Podcast, as I scout the perfect spot for recording and editing future shows,

tree-1574165_640No worries, in the the meantime, I am staying connected with my Makers via social media. I believe my ideas, news, tips, patterns, and crochet Memes are going to make your days.

A few festive posts and goodies are  coming to CC’s Blog, tailored for my sellers & makers .

Made With Love

genesis blanket

I remember when my granddaughter was in the pediatric hospital during Christmas. My daughter was really sad, having a sick baby in the hospital during Christmas is enough to break anyone’s spirit.

On Christmas Day while my daughter stayed by her baby girl’s side, a band of sweet older women were making their rounds on that floor spreading Christmas joy! They came to the  room and presented my daughter with a handmade ripple stitch blanket in shades of pink.

She was thrilled and her entire countenance changed.

Later, when I picked her up,  she held up the blanket and exclaimed “Mommy look at this beautiful blanket and look at the Label!”  Printed on the label was “Made with Love by Susan ?” I can’t remember the last name but I recall how happy my daughter was about the blanket and the message on the label.

Imagine labeling all of your precious handcrafted gifts. Decades later that label will speak volumes about you and your work.

Labels are not only for sellers but for the crochet hobbyist too.

Believe me after that exchange with my daughter and the generous crochet stranger, I  wanted every keepsake blanket I made my grandchildren to have labels. Unfortunately  I tried, and it was hard,  so I just stopped.

However,  today the process is much easier and fun!

I am ordering mine from Wunder Label with these words “Grandma Made It” and add one of their cute heart symbols & “I love You”  on them.   These labels are going on my grandchildrens’  blankets old and new.

How about you join me. Put them on any one of your handmade creations.

If you already use personalized labels for your crochet creations I’d love to hear about it.

SHOW #5 MY HOBBY IS CROCHET

#ccpodcast #myhobbyiscrochet
#ccpodcast #myhobbyiscrochet
Founder of a vibrant crochet blog, and one of the largest Crochet Groups on Facebook w/ awesome Admins backing her!

Listen to this episode!

Kinga Erdem is the founder of one of the most massive, vibrant and supportive crochet groups on FaceBook.  She is just the sweetest and humblest of women. Her blog My Hobby is Crochet boasts grand resources stock full of free patterns and tutorials; a playground for Crocheters.

After I joined her FB Group, I was determined to get Kinga Erdem on the podcast. Why? I needed to know how, and what drives a person to run a colossal group, a blog with free patterns and sensational quest bloggers, all for no salary.  As a former group moderator; with over 700 members, a single empty nester, and that was an overtime job!  Hence, I was on a mission to see how Kinga manages as a full time Mother. Moreover, allow the members to truly see the time and sacrifices made to give us creatives a safe place for growth, sharing, encouragement, and learning

Even during the interview there is a moment where you are going to hear, and get a deeper behind the scenes peak of the devoted lives of group owners and admins

Well Kinga and I were messaging back and forth about the interview; whilst, she’s on maternity leave, lives in Germany, and there’s a huge time difference between. Eventually, we agreed an Admin would be just as good to interview.

It was a great pleasure to interview Jackie Edwards, one of the many admins near my time zone. We had a hard time ending the interview; and I stifled lots of giggles, and laughter!

I introduce to the world Kinga Erdem creator of My Hobby Is Crochet and her Admin Jackie Edwards

5 great ways to maximize your Online Groups experience

  1. Follow the rules: if you are in a group for Chefs try to stay as close to subject of cooking as much as you can. However, times may arise when one is going through personal issues and need some encouragement, I’d say share but not too much. Once words are released on the world wide web there is no going back.
  2. Don’t take offense easily, other people’s interpretation or perception of a comment is taken wrongly. Remember people from all nationalities, cultures, and experiences make up these dynamic groups; and not interacting face to face. But, there’s one thing that can cross these borders, Emoticons! Take advantage of these little internet goodies, and use nice ones. This can maintain a community of fun, growth.
  3. Add value, by posting a question (that’s not too controversial) or joining discussions. Give good feedback to a question or comment. Share funny, encouraging; picture, stories and quotes. They are great at making members smile, laugh, or feel motivated.
  4. Don’t be Spammy. I am all for promoting your page, blog, or website; it’s exciting and a great sense of accomplishments and you want to share among members. I did when my blog and podcast launched I just wanted to share. However, asking to purchase products and/or adding sales lead links changes the whole dynamics of the group.  The owner worked hard to create a mood of sharing and caring not taking. Imagine hanging with a friend and all they want is your money; or you build a reputable company and a boot-legger comes in selling their products in your establishments to your customers. You’ll be upset. Nevertheless, there are groups for that purpose and you should take advantage of that selling platform.
  1. If you feel the group is not for you, leave quietly and create your own group with like- minded people.
